Land-Cover Land-Use Change on the Yamal Peninsula. A project of the Alaska Geobotany Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with funding from NASA.

The ArcticBiomass workshop at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) on September 2-3, 2014 brought together 21 researchers from the USA, Norway, Finland, UK, and the EU's Joint Research Centre in Italy . The workshop was hosted by UAF and the ArcticBiomass project and co-arranged with the NASA Yamal LCLUC Synthesis project (2014-2016).

Themes

The focus of the workshop was on biomass estimation and monitoring from plot scale to satellite. Presentations addressed land- and vegetation change, climate, phenology and productivity, field sampling methods, use of UAS, upscaling and monitoring.

Outcomes and Next Steps

A total of 20 papers are planned by the ArcticBiomass team members and the NASA Yamal project team.The ArcticBiomass team submitted a proposal to the Environmental Research Letters (ERL) Editorial Board for a special issue on biomass, which has been accepted.
